Bus Fare Hike
* Re “Planned Fare Hike Points Up Inequities in Bus, Rail Subsidies,” June 18:
I am no rocket scientist. However, when the MTA reports that it subsidizes the operating costs at a rate of $1.16 per passenger on its buses, except on its most crowded lines, which require subsidies of only 34 cents, then the answer to MTA’s money problems seems to be to lower the fares, stupid!
Obviously, the more passengers using the bus lines, the lower the costs. Let’s go for it, folks. That’s my tax money you are wasting, and it’s got to stop.
