Houston Hands Splash Its First Defeat

Houston scored the final three goals and beat the Splash, 7-5, in a Continental Indoor Soccer League game in front of 4,989 Sunday at the Summit in Houston.

It was the first loss of the season for Anaheim (6-1) and the first home victory for Houston (2-4).

The Splash led, 4-1, at the half but Houston scored three goals in the third quarter to tie the score, 4-4.

Anaheim went up, 5-4, on a goal by Rod Castro 5 minutes 59 seconds into the fourth quarter.

But Houston got a goal from Mirko Castillo to tie, 5-5, about two minutes later. The Hotshots went up, 6-5, on a goal by Juan Cobo with about 2:45 left to play.

Mark McKay scored Houston’s final goal with 26 seconds left.

McKay and Nebo Bandovic had two goals each for Houston and Hotshots keeper Shawn Ray had 14 saves in his first victory of the season.

Castro had two goals for the Splash. Jorge Valenzuela had 14 saves in his first loss for the Splash.
