CAMARILLO : Candidates Sought for School Board

Share

Pleasant Valley School District Trustee Leonard Caligiuri will not seek election to a second term in November, he has announced.

Camarillo residents interested in running for his position or one of the other two seats up for election this year will have the opportunity to learn more about the duties of school trustees at a forum tonight.

The terms of Trustees Jan McDonald and Val Rains also expire this year. McDonald said this week that she has not made up her mind whether to run. Rains could not be reached for comment.

McDonald, elected in 1990, said she will decide against seeking reelection if another candidate emerges who will represent the viewpoint of parents and students.

McDonald said she hopes that the November election will have a wider field of candidates than the contest two years ago. Pleasant Valley school officials were concerned by the low level of interest in the board election in 1992. Only three candidates ran for two seats, which were won by Ricardo Amador and Robert Rexford.

Tonight’s forum may help potential candidates decide whether to run, McDonald said. The forum will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. in Room 7 at El Rancho Structured School, 550 Temple Ave.

“Perhaps people who are wavering one way or the other will make up their minds,” she said.
