SuperSonics, Warriors Ready to Make Trade
The Golden State Warriors would send Sarunas Marciulionis and Byron Houston to Seattle in return for Ricky Pierce and the SuperSonics’ No. 1 pick, Carlos Rogers, under a pending deal between the teams.
The trade hasn’t been announced or formally consummated yet because of a freeze on new or adjusted contracts in the NBA until at least July 8. The moratorium is the result of a temporary restraining order issued in U.S. District Court in New York in response to a Players Assn. antitrust suit against the league.
Warrior President Dan Finnane confirmed Wednesday night that “something was in the works” but declined to be specific.
The San Francisco Examiner reported Thursday the deal would go through once the legal and technical aspects were resolved.
The Lakers had also tried to make a deal for Rogers, a 6-foot-11 center.
