Venezuela’s Planning Minister Quits: The official in charge of long-term economic planning quit because of disputes with the government on how to rally Venezuela’s foundering economy. Planning Minister Luis Carlos Palacios said he disagreed with government plans announced last week to impose price and exchange controls. He also said the government had ignored a broad economic plan put forward by his ministry that included increasing the prices for fuel, modifications to the social security system and intensified talks with the International Monetary Fund.
