VENTURA : Police Set Up 2nd Storefront Station

Share

In an effort to reduce crime and improve community relations, the Ventura Police Department will open a second storefront station Thursday, this time behind the Vons shopping center at Main Street and Ventura Avenue.

An opening ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the new storefront, located at 110 N. Olive Ave. Students from Sheridan Way School, Westpark Kids recreational group, and the Boys and Girls Club will entertain visitors with music and other activities.

The storefront’s opening comes about two months after hundreds of Ventura Avenue-area residents complained to City Council members about crime and gangs. Some residents told the council that gang members had thrown stones at their windows and threatened them.

Similar to a storefront on Bristol Road, space for the new mini-station was donated by a local business. The office will be staffed with two Police Department employees and volunteers.
