A 28-year-old Oxnard man was listed in serious condition at an Oxnard hospital Tuesday with three gunshots to the head, chest and stomach after a skirmish with an unknown number of assailants, police said Tuesday.

Jose Martinez was wounded late Monday night after he and two friends were in a fistfight that ended in gunshots, said Sgt. Charles Dunham of the Oxnard Police Department. Police said they had no suspects and were still searching for a cause for the shooting.

“We’re examining everything--all possibilities,” Dunham said.

Oxnard police found Martinez lying bloody in the street in the 500 block of North Bonita Avenue soon after police dispatch received a 911 call at about 11 p.m. Monday, Dunham said.

Emergency medical personnel treated Martinez at the scene and then transported him to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, Dunham said.
