Former Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce President Michael S. Mc Caffrey has announced his plans to run for the City Council in November.

Mc Caffrey, 34, who runs an insurance underwriting agency, said his main goal as a councilman would be to attract more businesses to Simi Valley.

“Overall, Simi Valley operates with a sound fiscal policy,” Mc Caffrey said. “But I’d like to see a much more aggressive approach to bringing businesses to the city.”

The City Council seats held by Sandi Webb and Judy Mikels are up for election in November. Webb has said she plans to seek reelection but has not formally announced her candidacy. Mikels gave up her seat to run for the Ventura County Board of Supervisors.

Mc Caffrey, who served as president of the Chamber of Commerce from 1990 through last month, is the fourth Simi Valley resident to enter the council races.

Other candidates are Joseph R. Vesalga, 39, a computer operator; Debi Schultze, 37, a mortgage loan processor, and Dean F. Kunicki, 49, president of a Thousand Oaks-based company that helps businesses establish self-insured health plans.
