BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MINORS / MAJORS : Another Home Run for Strawberry
Darryl Strawberry made another successful step in his comeback when he hit his second home run in as many games for the triple-A Phoenix Giants.
Strawberry, attempting to play himself back into shape after sitting out all of the regular season while undergoing substance-abuse treatment, homered in the third inning against Vancouver left-hander Andrew Lorraine at Scottsdale, Ariz.
Strawberry had a sacrifice fly in the first and a solo shot in the third that landed in the right field bullpen.
New York Yankee first baseman and team captain Don Mattingly was placed on the 15-day disabled list because of tendinitis in his right wrist. . . .
Baseball players are expected to present their opening contract demands when negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement resume today.
