WEST VALLEY : Victim Restitution Law Gets Assembly OK

Share

The state Assembly has approved a bill by Assemblyman Bill Hoge (R-Pasadena) to reform California’s victim restitution system.

The bill would enable victims of crime or their families to collect money paid by the offender as restitution. It would also enable courts to impose restitution for misdemeanor offenses and would include future earning capacity as criteria in defining a defendant’s ability to pay.

“This Legislature is, at long last, beginning to act on the behalf of victims,” Hoge said. The bill must be passed by the Senate and signed by the governor to become law.
