A reward of up to $25,000 was offered Wednesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer of a Long Beach convenience store clerk during a robbery attempt Saturday.
Gonzalo Garcia, 22, died at the scene of the 1:33 a.m. shooting at an Arco AM/PM mini-market at 200 W. Willow St., Arco spokeswoman Annie Reutinger said.
After Garcia, also known as Gonzalo Garcia Alvarez, was shot, the suspect tried to open the cash register but fled empty-handed, Reutinger said.
The suspect was described as about 19 years old, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 130 to 160 pounds, Long Beach Detective Jorge Cisneros said.
Garcia had worked at the store for two months. Anyone with information about the crime should call Cisneros at (310) 570-7244.
The reward was offered through Arco’s Crime Deterrent Program which, since 1978, has awarded more than $2 million, Reutinger said.
