Hundreds of antique cars and street rods will be on display Sunday outside the Vintage Museum of Transportation and Wildlife when the Oxnard Police Department is host of the fifth annual Cops & Cruisers Car Show.

The event is a fund-raiser for various youth organizations, including Casa Pacifica, a Camarillo shelter for abused children.

“This show has really grown over the past five years,” said Jan Paxton, who organized the event with her husband, Paul, in conjunction with the Police Department.

“I’ve got entries from as far south as San Diego and as far north as Paso Robles,” Paxton said. “I’ve even got one from as far east as Tennessee.”

There will be food booths, entertainment, three bands and vendors selling parts and equipment for classic car collectors and builders. This year, police volunteers have set up a boxing ring for demonstrations in boxing and martial arts.

The department’s Special Weapons and Tactics squad also will hold a demonstration. At 3 p.m., awards will given out to more than 90 vehicles in 28 categories, including best sports cars, street rods and nostalgic automobiles.

Admission to the outdoor display is free after 10 a.m. But entry into the vintage museum, located at 1421 Emerson Ave. in Oxnard, is $10.
