“The Lion King” roared to the top of both The Times’ Southern California pop album chart and the national chart, spurred by the king-sized box-office figures. The album also got a hefty boost from the success of the single, Elton John’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”--which is No. 8 on both the local and national pop singles chart. Stone Temple Pilots’ “Purple” album, which slipped to No. 2 on the national and Southern California pop album charts, still tops the hard-rock chart.
