There’s a G-7 economic summit in Naples, but it comes in a distant second to the World Cup in importance.

And not only for Italians.

An aide whispered to Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi that Dino Baggio had scored to give Italy a 1-0 lead over Spain as Berlusconi was rushing from a news conference Saturday.

After answering questions for 45 minutes, Berlusconi met with Russian President Boris Yeltsin with the hope of rushing back for the second half.

French President Francois Mitterrand was trying to cut another news conference short, and when reporters persisted, he finally said to one, “You are no sportswoman.”
