In response to “Gunmen Kill Soccer Player in Colombia,” July 3:

Goodby soccer. Adios World Cup. The ambush that killed a World Cup soccer player in Medellin, Colombia may have also wounded an innocent bystander in America:

Popular interest.

Next year, after all the hoopla has subsided here in this country, interest in a sport that uses only half the human body will probably have died like the unfortunate Andres Escobar--leaving a blip on the screen of the average living room television no bigger than a bloodstain.

* Regarding the death of Andres Escobar because of his error in the first round of the World Cup soccer games: I believe Colombia should be banned from the World Cup the next time around. And if anything like that should happen again--banned for life.

Those people are psychotic.
