2 Injured in Fair Roller-Coaster Crash File Lawsuit Against Ride Operators

Share

Two men who were among eight people injured in a crash of three cars on the Orange County Fair roller coaster last summer filed suit in Orange County Superior Court this week against the ride operators.

Jesse Cooper of Huntington Beach and Jeremy Buchanan of Irvine are seeking unspecified damages from B & B Amusements of Yuma, Ariz., for medical costs, the loss of wages and general damages stemming from a chain-reaction collision on the fair’s Cyclone ride on July 12, 1993.

About 11:30 p.m. that night, a two-car train on the Cyclone ride crashed at high speed into an empty train in the ride’s loading bay, sending it into a third train that was being loaded, according to authorities and witnesses.

The lawsuit, filed Monday, alleges that the roller-coaster operator caused the collision by failing to properly operate the brakes.
