Share

Los Alamitos, currently conducting a 142-day quarter horse meeting, will show harness racing on the track’s monitors Saturday.

The $1-million Meadowlands Pace at East Rutherford, N.J., will be the first of five simulcast harness races to be shown at Los Alamitos over the next month.

The track will simulcast the $100,000 New Jersey Sires Stake Final on July 21, the $400,000 Budweiser Beacon Course Trot on July 30, the $235,000 Niatross Pace on Aug. 4 and the $740,000 Woodrow Wilson Pace on Aug. 13.

Saturday’s card begins with a simulcast quarter- horse race from Sam Houston Park in Houston and a live quarter-horse race.

Then the monitors will show the two elimination races leading up to the Meadowlands Pace, giving fans an opportunity to see the harness horses before betting.

Tracks have been allowed to simulcast out-of-state races, with approval from the California Horse Racing Board, since 1989. But until now, tracks have shown only races of the same breed as the live meeting.
