Share

The city of Glendale will cap off a series of events designed to attract World Cup visitors to the area with a Cruise Night tonight in the city’s downtown business district.

The event, featuring a 250-vehicle classic car show and a street concert with Dick Dale and Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys, will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. along Brand Boulevard between Broadway and California Avenue.

Officials expect more than 10,000 people to attend the barbecue and concert. The free party, with hamburgers and hot dogs grilled by the Jewel City Kiwanis, will be hosted by radio station KRTH 101-FM.

Both bands will be playing for the first time locally after returning from national tours. Dick Dale, who has been called the “king of surf guitar,” will perform songs from his album “Unknown Territory.”

Fifties rockabilly artists Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys will perform selections from their album “Jumping From 6 to 6.”

The evening will feature a drawing for a 1994 Harley-Davidson motorcycle to be donated by Harley-Davidson of Glendale. Tickets for the drawing can be purchased at the street party for $1 each or six tickets for $5.

Cruise Night follows the Country Western Street Party and an 18-mile soccer relay that traveled around the city. The events were designed to draw World Cup visitors to Glendale to patronize the city’s shops, restaurants, hotels and theaters.
