Rookie Bob Hamelin, ejected from the first game for charging the mound, hit a three-run homer in the second game Friday to lead the Royals to a 5-3 victory over Detroit and a split of their doubleheader at Kansas City.

The Tigers won the first game, 14-2, as Cecil Fielder had a three-run homer and a season-high five runs batted in.

Hamelin charged the mound in the ninth inning of the first game after Greg Cadaret sailed his first pitch behind Hamelin’s head. Hamelin punched Cadaret in the face, and Cadaret tackled Hamelin and shattered Hamelin’s glasses.

In the second game, Hamelin hit his club-leading 17th homer. It came in the fifth inning against Mike Moore after Dave Henderson had a single and Wally Joyner walked.

At least three fans suffered minor injuries when part of a fireworks display exploded in the right field bleachers after Hamelin’s homer.

Cleveland 3, Chicago 2--At Chicago, Mark Clark and Jeff Russell combined on a six-hitter and helped the Indians end a seven-game White Sox winning streak.

Clark (11-3) gave up only one extra-base hit, walked two and struck out five in 8 1/3 innings. He defeated Jack McDowell (7-8), who had won his previous five decisions.

Albert Belle’s bat was removed from the game in the first inning after White Sox Manager Gene Lamont asked home plate umpire Dave Phillips to inspect it. The bat will be inspected for cork.

Boston 4, Oakland 1--Tom Brunansky’s three-run home run capped a four-run rally in the ninth inning against Dennis Eckersley for the Red Sox at Oakland.

With a 1-0 lead to protect, Eckersley (2-4) retired the first two and was one strike away from ending the game when Mo Vaughn lined a single to center. Pinch-runner Scott Fletcher stole second and scored the tying run on Mike Greenwell’s pinch-single. After Scott Cooper singled, Brunansky homered.

“There were three great at-bats in front of me,” Brunansky said, “and they all got two-strike hits. By the time it got to me, the game was already tied. Mine was just a one-pitch at-bat. I was lucky.”

Toronto 7, Texas 5--Juan Guzman (9-9) survived six walks, three wild pitches and two errors to get his third consecutive victory for the Blue Jays at Arlington, Tex.

Toronto scored four runs in the first inning--three unearned--and watched the Rangers commit their league-leading 84th, 85th and 86th errors--all on potential double plays.

Milwaukee 8, Minnesota 7--Rookie Jeff Cirillo hit his first major league homer and drove in three runs and Ricky Bones (8-7) benefited from an early 7-1 lead at Minneapolis.

Cirillo, whose two-run pinch-double in the ninth inning gave the Brewers a victory over the Twins on Thursday, singled in two runs in Milwaukee’s four-run first inning against Scott Erickson (8-8) and hit a solo homer against Dave Stevens in the fifth.
