On official FIFA stationery, an unidentified journalist’s story mistakenly was copied by the dozens and then placed in the press room bins for all to see.
Among the anonymous writer’s comments:
“It’s sad that such a wonderful tournament should have such a yawner as its climax. I guess, however, that many of the recent Super Bowls have been similar type games.”
Which probably was not a statement FIFA officials wanted made.
