Responding to complaints from residents and business owners, undercover sheriff’s deputies arrested five women on suspicion of soliciting acts of prostitution along Sierra Highway and Palmdale Boulevard in the Antelope Valley.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said four of the women were arrested along Sierra Highway in Lancaster between Avenues L and M. The fifth was picked up on Palmdale Boulevard near 15th Street East in Palmdale.

The sweep by the Antelope Valley station’s Street Criminal Apprehension Team was conducted Thursday night. The women, all residents of Palmdale and Lancaster, were cited for misdemeanor offenses after conversations with the undercover deputies.

Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Shreves said the deputies conducted the sweep after residents and business people complained that suspected prostitutes were walking along the street, hailing male motorists and annoying customers outside stores.

He said these locations are long-standing trouble spots for prostitution and that deputies conducted about half a dozen such sweeps in the area last year.
