VENTURA : Council to Vote on New Trolley Funds

Share

If Ventura wants to keep its new downtown-harbor trolley past March, it will have to invest nearly $20,000 in the venture, according to a report to the City Council.

The council will vote Monday night on whether to spend $19,249 on the purchase of a new trolley. A $76,996 grant from the Federal Transit Administration will make up the rest of the purchase cost.

Currently, Ventura has issued a franchise contract to Madison and Associates to operate a gasoline-fueled trolley from July 1, 1994, to March 1, 1995. That is the same company that operates trolleys in Santa Barbara.

The trolley runs between downtown, the Pier and Ventura Harbor.

The fare, good all day, is $1 for adults and 50 cents for seniors. Children under 5 years of age, residents over 75 and guests of the hotels whose advertisements are plastered on the sides of the trolley for free.
