COMING HOME: The months of exile are almost over for CalArts. On Aug. 3, the school, which occupied temporary quarters in Santa Clarita and Pasadena after its Valencia campus was heavily damaged in the Jan. 17 quake, will be moving back home. . . . In the final analysis, according to school President Steven D. Lavine, the rebuilding process will cost in excess of $26 million.

FELIX RETURNS: Cats do have nine lives, especially if they make it on television. This time, the fortunate feline is none other than Felix the Cat, who will return to the tube on Saturday mornings this fall in a series of five-second CBS spots produced by Film Roman, an animation company in North Hollywood. . . . “We want to make a whole new generation aware of this cat who has amused so many people,” said President Phil Roman.

TWO VIEWS: Two different Catholic organizations are on opposite sides of the fence. “Picket Fences,” that is. One group, the Studio City-based Catholics in Media, founded by Jack and Patt Shea (above), applauds the CBS series for how it’s dealt with moral issues. . . . But another, Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, argues the show has featured anti-Catholic bigotry (B11).

MOOD CHANGE: There are two Lance Whitakers. The one outside the ring listens to soul, but the one between the ropes goes right for the body (C14). . . . Whitaker, who attended San Fernando High, will take part in the Goodwill Games in Russia, which opened Friday. “Once I get in the ring,” he said, “it’s business. I’m gonna take care of you before you take care of me.”

VALLEY ANGEL: It sure didn’t take Hart High alum Andrew Lorraine long to make it to the big leagues. In fact, Lorraine, 21, who made his first start Friday night (C14), signed with the Angels exactly a year ago Sunday. . . . Lorraine, a two-time All-Southern selection at Hart, was chosen in the fourth round of the June draft last year after playing for Stanford.

TONIGHT: Longtime Valley favorite, singer Bob Marlo performs at 9 at Monteleone’s West, 19337 Ventura Blvd., Tarzana. No cover. Information: (818) 996-0662.
