28 Seniors Awarded Scholarships

Honda and Shell Oil Co. last week announced scholarships for 28 seniors from local Los Angeles high schools.

One student, Julio Mau of Crenshaw, received a Shell scholarship for $8,000.

Four-year Shell scholarships of up to $4,000 apiece went to the top three graduates at local high schools. The company will deposit $1,000 a year--for four years--with the college of each recipient’s choice.

The Shell scholarship winners are:

* Nsikak Udo, Andre Wallace and Ronald Estrada of Jordan,

* Xinyan Li and Deanna Howard of Crenshaw,

* Gabriela Nunez, Monique Young and Yurietta Luviani of Locke,

* Michelle McIver, Ellisa Irvin and Orlando Johnson of Dorsey,

* Edgar Chavez, Georgina Contreras and Aracely Martinez of Manual Arts,

* LaShuanda Pierce, Dartanian Goff and Celisa Edwards of Fremont,

* Keida Bratcher, Edgar Dominguez and Amy Clark of Washington,

* Vianney Hernandez, Gloria Romero and Enedina Perez of Jefferson.

Honda has also awarded $1,000 scholarships to four local graduating seniors. The students, who were to be presented with their awards on Saturday, are among 10 Los Angeles Unified students selected as winners of the third annual American Honda/Mario J. Machado Academic Scholarship Competition.

The students wrote essays in response to the question: “Can we all get along as a multicultural society?”

The Honda scholarship winners are: Ruby Gomez of Roosevelt, Anselmo Martinez of Belmont, Mabel Mendez of Manual Arts and Enedina Perez of Jefferson.
