A Camarillo man was arrested on suspicion of assault and false imprisonment after he held his son and three of his son’s friends at knifepoint for more than six hours Friday night and early Saturday morning, a county sheriff’s spokesman said.

Randall Gullickson, 40, was arrested after one of his son’s friends escaped and called authorities from a neighboring home, Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Backman said.

Backman said Gullickson does not have custody of his son. The boy and his friends came to Gullickson’s home Friday and joined him for an evening of drinking and taking drugs, Backman said.

Authorities did not say how old the boy or his friends were.

For unknown reasons, Gullickson would not let the boy and his friends leave, Backman said. He confronted them with a knife, handcuffed them and then threatened to kill them if they did not stay, he said.

Sheriff’s deputies were called about 5:30 a.m. Saturday after one of the friends escaped, Backman said. Authorities did not say how the friend managed to free himself from the handcuffs.

When deputies arrived, they had to use pepper spray to subdue Gullickson, he said.

Gullickson was booked into the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, and for being under the influence of an illegal drug, deputies said. His bail was set at $5,000.
