HUNTINGTON BEACH : Superintendent’s Term Is Extended

Share

David J. Hagen, superintendent of the public high schools in Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley and Westminster, has had his contract extended for two more years, until 1998.

By a 4-1 vote, the board of the Huntington Beach Union High School District last week agreed to lengthen Hagen’s contract but gave him no pay increase for the coming school year.

Because of a tight budget caused by declining enrollment, the board this year had similarly voted for no pay raises for other personnel, including teachers.

Hagen’s contract was scheduled to expire in 1996. At its July 19 meeting, the board voted to extend it until June 30, 1998.

Hagen’s salary last school year was $103,900, and it will remain unchanged at least until next June 30, the school board decided.

School board member Dirk Voss cast the lone opposing vote against the contract extension.

Voss said he did not think it appropriate to extend the incumbent superintendent’s contract before the school board election is held this fall.

Three of the five school board seats are up for election in November.

The district governs Marina, Edison, Ocean View and Huntington Beach high schools in Huntington Beach and Westminster High and Fountain Valley High in those cities.
