Wouldn’t you know it?

Raider Coach Art Shell attends a news conference in Barcelona and the first thing he’s asked is if he hopes the Raiders might still return to Oakland some day.

This is a subject the Raiders can’t leave behind no matter how far they go. Playing the part of international diplomat Thursday, Shell said he “appreciated the fans in Oakland, but we are not looking to return as of now.”

Then he added: “We appreciate the fans of Los Angeles. L.A. is where we are and where we plan to stay.”

At least nobody asked him if the Raiders might move to Barcelona.

In the Raider traveling party are 40 former players, guests of owner Al Davis. . . . The last time the Raiders and the Denver Broncos met in an exhibition game, the site was Portland, Ore. That was 1968, when the Oakland Raiders won, 23-7. . . . This is the third time the Raiders have appeared in the NFL’s international series known as the American Bowl. They previously played in London against the New Orleans Saints in 1990 and in Tokyo against the Miami Dolphins in 1991.
