Two brothers were wounded early Monday when three members of a neighboring family across the street fired 15 to 20 shots, police said.

The volleys, fired just after midnight in the 12800 block of Pearce Avenue, left brothers Joseph Erickson, 18, and his brother Matthew, 20, with leg wounds, Garden Grove Police Lt. John Woods said. The brothers were taken to UCI Medical Center, where they were treated and released.

James Ronald Maxwell, 47, and his sons, John David, 20, and Thomas John, 21, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, authorities said. They were being held at Orange County Jail.

Police seized a shotgun, a .303-caliber rifle and a SKS assault-type rifle from the Maxwell home.

Woods said the shooting, which stemmed from a long-term neighborhood dispute, took place after Joseph Erickson parked his vehicle in front of his house and began walking home. Matthew Erickson, who was sitting inside the house, was struck by a stray bullet.
