Insurers Paid $1.52 Billion in AIDS Claims in 1993: The American Council of Life Insurance said that according to its 1993 survey, U.S. companies paid that amount in cases directly related to AIDS patients, up from the $1.41 billion the life and health insurers paid in 1992. Results were based on responses from 372 companies and on projections of claims paid by companies that did not respond to the survey. Responding companies paid claims of slightly more than $1 billion, the trade group said. AIDS-related claims since 1986 total about $7.8 billion, the survey found.
