Insured Quake Losses Pass $7-Billion Mark: Property losses from the Jan. 17 Northridge earthquake have climbed to $7.2 billion, the American Insurance Services Group Inc. said. More than 300,000 claims are expected to be filed with insurers, the group said. About 90% of claims have been closed, but the percentage has remained relatively constant in recent weeks due to new claim submissions.
