The NHL, without a collective bargaining agreement since Sept. 15, 1993, will meet with the players’ association for the first time in five months on Aug. 18. Free agency and a salary cap are expected to be on an agenda that includes a 16-point rollback that would eliminate meal allowances and have players pay their way to training camp and home again at the end of the season, according to the union.
College Football
Cotton Bowl officials are scheduled to meet this week to consider options for the 58-year-old event, which was left out of the Tier I bowl alliance.
The Big 12 is considering holding a championship game in December in Texas Stadium, sending a team to the Cotton Bowl or both, but officials are being guarded in their relationship with the city, one telling the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, “that should not give (Cotton Bowl officials) a false sense of security. The dollar sign has a lot to do with it.”
