Citizens Seeking Stronger Voice

* I am responding to a letter (“Possible Jail Expansion,” Aug. 2). Other cities are experiencing lack of control over their community.
We, the citizens of Buena Park, urged our City Council to give us a “right to vote” on putting our Fire Department under the county’s regionalization; we were flatly denied the constitutional right. Consequently, Buena Park lost its Fire Department.
For this reason, some citizens here in Buena Park have ordered a committee called Voters in Action (VIA) to initiate a referendum to correct some of the inadequacies in local government. Other cities have formed similar committees.
It is a start in the right direction.
