A 20-year-old Laguna Niguel woman was killed and a passenger seriously injured before dawn Saturday when their vehicle pitched out of control and rolled over after striking a freeway pillar.

Andrea Krause, who was driving, was killed in the collision and her 19-year-old passenger was seriously injured, the California Highway Patrol said. The passenger was taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo where she was reported in stable condition Saturday night.

Authorities said Krause lost control of her 1981 Subaru about 5:25 a.m. while making the transition from Interstate 5 to the northbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway. The car struck a curve and rolled up an embankment and struck a concrete pillar before rolling back down and overturning, landing on its top, according to the CHP.
