More People Flying: Southwest Airlines reports that Orange County is exceeding its expectations for passenger growth, and it would like to start additional flights at John Wayne Airport.

In July, the airline boarded 45,572 passengers at John Wayne, a 21% increase over 37,727 in June.

Linda Burke, spokeswoman for Dallas-based Southwest, said the increase is a response to the spreading reputation of the airline’s low fares. Southwest was the first low-fare airline to start service at John Wayne when it began in May with 15 daily flights.

“It is our second full month of service, so we are going to see a learning curve as customers see we are convenient and affordable,” she said.
