Share

Several classes in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation will be offered over the next few months at Anaheim General Hospital.

The classes are being sponsored by LifeLine CPR, a private medical training firm that is associated with the American Heart Assn.

Basic first aid training courses will be held on Sept. 17, Oct. 8 and Dec. 10.

The courses will look at methods for treating shock, bleeding, broken bones, exposure to heat or cold as well as neck and back injuries.

Participants will also learn basic CPR skills and how to deal with adults with obstructed air passages.

“We want to help (people) make a difference in . . . stabilizing patients before medical professionals arrive,” said Marla Chappelear, a nurse who runs the LifeLine program.

She said a key part of the program deals with evaluating emergency situations before taking action.

“So many times, rescuers become victims themselves because they go into dangerous situations,” Chappelear said.

More advanced CPR classes as well as first-aid training for children are also available.

The classes are taught by nurses and emergency medical technicians who have been certified by the American Heart Assn.

Prices for the classes vary from about $15 to $35. For more information, call (714) 489-3384.
