Smith Leads Cowboys Over Broncos
Emmitt Smith, making his first appearance since an MVP outing in the Super Bowl, took up where he left off by scoring a touchdown, setting up another, and rushing for 110 yards in 21 carries in the Dallas Cowboys’ 34-10 exhibition season victory Sunday night over the Denver Broncos.
Smith sat out the first three exhibitions, resting the right shoulder he injured in last year’s regular-season finale against the New York Giants.
Against the Broncos, he rushed nine times for 30 yards on the Cowboys’ first possession, caught two passes for nine yards, and scored on a one-yard run. Of the 17 plays on the 85-yard drive, Smith touched the ball on 11. He rushed for 44 yards in five carries on Dallas’ second drive and had 16 the next time the Cowboys had the ball before losing a fumble on the Denver 10.
Dallas’ Troy Aikman completed 15 of 23 for 156 yards.
