SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Sheriff’s deputies have arrested three men suspected of invading a Lancaster home at gunpoint and terrorizing and robbing the four occupants, authorities said Wednesday.

Deputies apprehended three suspects within minutes of the incident, which occurred at about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday at a house in the 45000 block of Fig Avenue, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said.

Three other suspects were still at large Wednesday.

In custody were Lavell Wright, 25; Felipe Sanchez, 21, and Jacob Witty, 25, all of Lancaster, Sheriff’s Sgt. Bobby Denham said. Wright and Sanchez, who are both on parole, were being held without bail at the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Station, while Witty’s bail was set at $65,000.

All three will be charged with robbery and, possibly, unlawful imprisonment, Denham said.

The names of the four occupants, two men and two women, were not available, Denham said. They were “roughed up” but did not require medical treatment.

The men, who wore pillow cases with eye holes over their heads, tied the victims’ hands behind their backs with telephone cords and made them lie on the living room floor as they robbed them of wallets, jewelry, purses and money, Denham said.

One of the victims lives at the house and the others were visiting when the incident occurred, Denham said.

The men stayed in the house only a few minutes, then fled, authorities said. A neighbor heard the commotion and called deputies, who arrived on the scene in time to see the suspects leaving in a car, Denham said.

The men led deputies on a brief chase before abandoning their car and fleeing on foot.

A handgun registered to Witty was found in the abandoned car, Denham said. Deputies found two gold necklaces outside the home, apparently dropped as the suspects fled.

The three suspects in custody, who hid in various locations around the neighborhood, were arrested over a period of three hours as dogs tracked them down, Denham said. Deputies using loudspeakers and knocking on doors warned neighbors to stay inside.

One neighbor, Jose Ruiz, said traffic and noise are common around the house where the robbers struck.

“We have had trouble with traffic; people come all the time with motorcycles and some with radios really high,” Ruiz said. “We thought something could happen and something did happen.”

Another neighbor, Sandy Paolone, said he and his fiancee, Paula Brodersen, were awakened by the sound of helicopters hovering over homes as deputies searched for the suspects.

“Paula asked me, ‘Do you want to go out and see what’s going on?’ but I said, ‘No way,’ ” Paolone recalled Wednesday. “When you see cops running all over the place, the best thing you can do is stay in your own home for your own safety.”

Paolone and other neighbors said they were disturbed to learn of the incident.

“I was shocked when I found out because stuff like that doesn’t happen around here,” said Otis Edwards. “From now on, I’m keeping everything around here locked, night and day.”
