OUTLOOK

Hinman’s first two seasons were less than stellar. He’s hoping the Saints’ fortune will change with the move from the Sunset League. Several good battles for positions are taking place. “We’d have to flip coins in a lot of spots if the season started today,” Hinman said. “We’ve got a lot of things that are still undecided.” Martinez and Schwalm each have shown leadership ability in the quarterback competition. Cabrera and Esparza have similar running styles. They are quick and can catch passes coming out of the backfield. Avila and Sagrero possess speed and usually catch most passes thrown in their direction. Size and strength along the offensive line might be a source of problems.
