TARGET ON TV: Westminster’s acclaimed anti-gang program, TARGET, will be part of a KNBC Channel 4 documentary on crime . . . “We feel this program has been extremely effective in working with the citizen to remove criminal gang members from the city,” said Police Chief James Cook. The series, “Victory Over Violence,” starts today. TARGET will be featured in a segment at 1 p.m. Sept. 17.

TARGET RUNWAY: How do airline pilots ensure perfect landings? They practice--and have spot-landing contests. Brad Englund of Fullerton won the most recent contest at Fullerton Municipal Airport, held by its Pilots Assn. . . . . Airport officials say such contests promote accurate and safe landings among pilots. Englund attributes his success to his experience as a hang glider: “When you hang glide, you don’t have the power of an engine so you have to be really careful with the landing. You have to stop in the right place.”

TRUCKIN’: The irrepressible Bette Midler had some choice comments about Orange County at her Thursday night concert at Irvine Meadows (F1) . . .At the beginning of her show, the Divine Miss M, who owns a home down the road in Laguna Beach, thanked the crowd for coming and added, “(With) all the entertainment opportunities in Orange County, it was us or the monster truck rally at Garden Grove.”

ONE-TON PENNIES: Jack Kronenberg is seeking compassionate penny hoarders for a good cause . . . Kronenberg, a vice president at Orange Coast Title in Santa Ana, is raising money for an Easter Seal 24-hour relay race Oct. 8-9 at Cal State Los Angeles. “When I get the $5,000 goal,” Kronenberg said, “it will weigh 3,000 pounds.
