LOS ALAMITOS : Good Time, Bad Post for Really A Secret

Really A Secret, the fastest qualifier for tonight’s $62,000 Gold Rush Derby at Los Alamitos, got the worst post for the 870-yard race.

Owned by Linda May Williams and trained by Dennis Givens, the 3-year-old drew the outside in the field of eight, meaning he figures to get caught wide.

Two of the other main contenders, Citation Five and Oh Oh The Signature, are directly inside Really A Secret. Thoroughbreds L.C. Tern and Tis A Little Doll, and Chicks Response, the three slowest qualifiers in the Gold Rush Derby trials on Aug. 19, drew the inside three posts.

Citation Five, beaten by a nose at 3-10 in his trial, is the most accomplished in the field. He has five victories in 17 starts and earnings of $61,097.

Two races later, Bein Cold Cash, who has four victories in six starts for trainer Blane Schvaneveldt, heads a field of 10 2-year-olds in the $12,000 Santa Barbara Overnight Handicap at 350 yards.
