Mike Kirby, 29, of Lomita went wire-to-wire to win his fourth Sprint Car Racing Assn. victory in the 30-lap main event at Ventura Raceway.

In the most recent SCRA program at Ventura, Kirby finished second when Tempe’s Ron Shuman passed him on the final lap. This time, Shuman was off racing a USAC Silver Crown event.

The race was marred by six caution flags, three of which occurred before one lap was completed.

Rancho Cucamonga’s Gary Howard finished second after earning his way into the feature with a victory in a 12-lap semi-main. J. J. Yeley, 17, of Phoenix was third after starting 17th in the 18-car field.
