Former and current Houston football players routinely paid another player to take their math exams, the Houston Chronicle reported.

University officials say the newspaper is milking old news.

“The university is going to do the right thing,” Coach Kim Helton said. “If you do the wrong thing and get caught, you’re going to be talking to the newspapers, because you’re not going to be on the team.”

But three former players say the cheating is more widespread than first reported last December.

Wide receiver Joey Galloway, who returned to Ohio State for his senior year rather than make himself available for the NFL draft, was suspended for two games for accepting money from a financial planner.

The university said Galloway received $200 when he was considering whether to leave school.

“When I took the money, I considered myself 100% leaving college football,” Galloway said at a news conference. “Then I went home and changed my mind about deciding to leave and I didn’t repay the money.”
