Reggie Tongue returned two of his three interceptions for touchdowns Saturday, helping Oregon State to a 44-31 victory over Wyoming.

Tongue’s 36-yard interception return for a score with 1:24 to play clinched the victory.

Tongue, who also returned an interception for a touchdown in a victory last season at Wyoming, grabbed John Gustin’s soft toss over the middle before reversing his field twice on the way to the end zone.

Tongue had two interceptions in Oregon State’s 21-point first quarter, returning one 46 yards for a score and setting up a touchdown with the other. His two interception returns for scores tied a school record set by Paul Snider in 1926.

Shayzar Hawkins’ 10-yard touchdown run after a crucial spot of the ball by the officials on a fourth-down try gave Oregon State (1-1) the lead for good at 38-31 with 5:06 to play.

On fourth and inches just outside the 10, Beaver quarterback Rahim Muhammad kept the ball on an option play and was wrapped up at the line of scrimmage. But officials spotted the ball just over the line and Oregon State picked up the first down by about two inches.

Wyoming (1-1) came back from deficits of 21-7 and 31-21 to tie the score, the last at 31-31 on Cory Sorenson’s 21-yard field goal with 10:47 to play.

Moments earlier, Wyoming halfback Sharay Ratliffe completed a 44-yard scoring pass to Marcus Harris.

Gustin threw four interceptions, two in the final 4 1/2 minutes.
