A Reseda woman was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run driving after an accident Wednesday in which a Canoga Park woman was critically injured, Los Angeles police reported.

Ana Mercedes Villanueva, 35, of Canoga Park was listed in critical condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center with head and facial injuries, police said.

Villanueva was driving north on Winnetka Avenue when a vehicle driven by Consuelo Morales, 37, of Reseda collided with Villanueva’s car as Morales made a left turn, police said. Villanueva’s car spun out of control and smashed into a traffic signal at Winnetka Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard, police said.

Morales fled in her car but was later arrested at her brother’s house nearby, police said.

“Patrol officers happened to be in the area when they saw her vehicle drive up,” said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Ben Lee. “As soon as she saw them, she ran inside the house, where she was arrested.”

Morales, booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving, was being held in lieu of $200,000 bail, police said.
