COMPTON : Plans for Golf Range Get Preliminary OK

Share

School officials are moving forward with a plan to build a golf driving range next to Dominguez High School as part of a joint venture with the city.

Last week, school officials tentatively approved plans to build the range on 7.6 acres of land owned by the district, Supt. Harold L. Cebrun said. Final approval is expected next month.

The city has proposed leasing the land for $50,000 to $60,000 annually for about 20 years. The district may also receive a percentage of the revenues generated at the range, Cebrun said.

The district has also asked the city to relocate the high school’s tennis courts from the area next to the empty lot and to upgrade some fields at the school, Cebrun added.

Frank Sotelo, who is coordinating the project for the city, said Compton has been trying to build the range for six years to complement a nearby city-owned golf course.

The plan must still be approved by the City Council, which is scheduled to review it next month. Groundbreaking would begin early next year, with completion by May, 1995.
