Countywide : Increase Projected in Property Tax Revenue

Share

County property tax revenue is expected to increase by $16.9 million this year, according to the treasurer-tax collector’s office, which this week mailed out 733,000 tax bills.

The projected revenue increase comes even though the county assessor’s office recently decreased the value of properties in the county by a total of $16 million, according to Treasurer-Tax Collector Robert L. Citron.

Citron estimated that his office will collect $1.9 billion in property taxes this fiscal year.

The expected revenue increase is attributed in part to the Santa Margarita Water District’s decision to process its tax collections through the county.

Because of this change, the county will see a $22-million increase in revenue collections this year, Citron said.

The first installment of property taxes is due Dec. 12. The second installment is due April 10, 1995. If property owners do not receive a tax bill by Oct. 7, they should call the collector’s office at (714) 834-4311.
