The David Flores show continued at Fairplex Park, where the five-time riding champion again put his name into the history book with a victorious ride on Shes A Sure Bet in the $50,000 Bangles And Beads Stakes Monday.

The one-length victory over Klassy Kim was Flores’ third of the day and his third stakes victory of the 19-day meeting, making him the all-time leading stakes rider at this track with 35. Francisco Mena has 34.

Flores, well on his way to his sixth consecutive title, now has 29 victories and a lead of nine over Fernando Valenzuela.

One of the riders in Monday’s 6 1/2-furlong feature was Corey Black, a four-time riding champion himself. Black, who shared the title with Flores and Martin Pedroza in 1989, the last year he rode regularly at Fairplex, was making his first appearance at this meeting and had the mount on Tour.

Tour had one other thing going for him. He is trained by Dick Mandella, who had won this stakes three years in a row.

But this year and this day belonged to Flores.

Horse Racing Notes

Jockey Guillermo Gutierrez was thrown from his mount, Tizcomo, during the stretch run of the 13th race. Gutierrez, who wasn’t injured, fell when Tizcomo stumbled, but the horse never went down. . . .
