COLLEGE ROUNDUP : San Diego Halts UC Irvine Soccer Streak
UC Irvine’s seven-game winning streak was stopped when San Diego beat the Anteaters, 3-1, in a nonconference men’s soccer game Sunday at Irvine.
After the Toreros (6-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on a goal by Doug Barry, P.J. Polowski tied it for Irvine (8-2) in the 30th minute. It was Polowski’s ninth goal and 25th point of the season.
Six minutes later, Guillermo Jara scored from 10 yards and with about four minutes remaining, Lafe Vittitoe put San Diego ahead, 3-1.
In another men’s soccer game:
Portland 2, CS Fullerton 0--Peter Kavanagh scored 18 minutes into the first half and Davide Xausa scored in the first minute of the second for Portland (7-1-1), ranked 11th in the nation, in Seattle. No. 25 Fullerton dropped to 7-1-1.
In the NorCal water polo tournament:
UC Irvine loses two--The seventh-ranked Anteaters lost two games in overtime, 11-9, to No. 6 Pepperdine in the consolation semifinals and, 14-13, to No. 4 Pacific in the seventh-place game.
