BEVERLY HILLS : Chicago Man Found Shot to Death in Alley

Authorities on Monday identified a 39-year-old Chicago man found shot to death in a Beverly Hills’ alley early Sunday morning.

Beverly Hills police identified the victim as Jon Simmons, who had been vacationing in Los Angeles with his brother. Simmons had gone out in West Hollywood Saturday evening, and when he failed to return the next day, his brother filed a missing persons report with the Los Angeles Police Department.

A West Hollywood resident out for a walk came across the body at 7:20 a.m. The unidentified woman flagged down West Hollywood Councilman Paul Koretz, who was walking his dog, and he called police with his cellular telephone.

The man appeared to have been shot in the forehead, Koretz said. The burned hulk of Simmons’ rental car was found in the San Gabriel Valley on Sunday morning.

It was the second murder in the past month in Beverly Hills, which averages one or two homicides a year. On Sept. 6, a Brinks armored car guard was killed as he was delivering money to a bank.
