Police have arrested a Huntington Beach man who allegedly robbed a liquor store Monday afternoon and then hijacked a car after he crashed his truck trying to flee.

Michael Warren Vines, 40, was eventually chased down on foot. He is being held at County Jail on suspicion of robbery, carjacking, hit-and-run and evading arrest, police said.

Pretending to have a gun under his shirt, Vines held up a clerk for an undisclosed amount of cash from M & M Liquor Store in the 15000 block of Magnolia Street, police Lt. Richard Main said. During his getaway, Vines crashed his truck into a car near Bolsa Avenue and Magnolia, disabling the truck and slightly injuring Vines and the other driver, Main said.

Vines fled into the neighborhood and seized a Toyota Cressida from a man arriving home from work, police said. An officer in a patrol car spotted the stolen car and briefly chased it until Vines jumped out and ran near the corner of Garden Grove and Beach boulevards, Main said. Vines was captured soon after, police said.

Vines is being held on $50,000 bail.
